And in the pneuma he carried me to a massive and tall mountain, and he showed me the holy city Jerusalem descending from the sky, from God. It has God’s glory. Its radiance is like a precious stone, like a crystal-clear jasper stone. It has a huge and tall wall. It has twelve gates, and twelve messengers stand at the gates, and names were inscribed, which are the names of the twelve tribes of Israel’s sons: three gates from the east, and three gates from the north, and three gates from the south, and three gates from the west. And the city’s wall has twelve foundations, and the twelve names of the lamb’s twelve envoys is on them.

And the one speaking with me had a golden measuring rod so he could measure the city and its gates and its wall. And the city is laid out square, and its length is the same as its width. And he measured the city with the rod to twelve thousand stadia. Its length and width and height are equal. And he measured its wall: one hundred forty four cubits, a man’s measurement, which is a messenger’s. And the wall’s enclosing was jasper, and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. The foundations of the city’s wall were adorned with every precious stone: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh peridot, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls—each one of the gates was one pearl—and the city’s street was pure gold like transparent glass.

And I did not see a temple in it, because the Lord God the Almighty is its temple, and the lamb. And the city has no need for the sun, nor for the moon to shine in it, since God’s glory is its light, and the lamb is its lamp. And the nations will walk by its light, and the earth’s kings will bring their glory into it. And its gates will never shut at day, since there will be no night. And they will bring the nations’ glory and honor into it. And all the common, and those who do abomination and lie will never enter it—only the ones written in the lamb’s scroll of life.

And he showed me a river of life’s water, bright like crystal, flowing from the throne of God and the lamb. In the middle of its street, and on this side and that side of the river, was a tree of life making twelve fruits, yielding its fruit for each month. And the tree’s leaves are for the nations’ healing. And there will not be any curse anymore. And the throne of God and the lamb will be in it, and his slaves will serve him. And they will see his presence, and his name will be on their foreheads. And there will be no night there, and they will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun because the Lord God will illuminate over them, and they will reign for ever and ever.
