After these things I saw another messenger descending from the sky, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated from his glory. And he shouted in a strong voice, saying, ‘Fallen, fallen is the great Babylon. And she has become a settlement of daemons, and a prison of every impure pneuma, and a prison of every impure bird, and a prison of every impure and hated wild animal, because all the nations have drunk from the wine of her whoredom’s passion, and the earth’s kings have solicited whoredom from her, and the earth’s merchants have been enriched from the power of her indulgences.’

And I heard another voice from the sky, saying, ‘Come out of her, my people, so you may not share in her sins, and you may not receive from her plagues, because her sins are heaped as high as the sky, and God remembered her injustices. Give to her what she gave, and repeat double to her according to her works. In the cup she mixed, mix double for her. As much as she glorified herself and indulged, give her as much torture and grief, because in her heart she says, “I sit as queen, and I am not a widow, and I will never see grief.” Because of this, the plagues of her death and grief and famine will come in one day. And she will be burned with fire, because the Lord God who judged her is strong.’

And the earth’s kings—those who solicited whoredom from her and indulged—will lament and mourn for her when they see the smoke of her burning. They will stand far away in fear of her torture, saying, ‘Woe, woe to the great city Babylon, the strong city, because judgment came to you in one hour.’

And the earth’s merchants will lament and mourn for her, because no one buys their cargo anymore: cargo of gold and silver and precious stone and pearls and fine linen and purple and silk and scarlet and all cedar wood and every ivory object and every expensive object of wood and bronze and iron and marble and cinnamon and spice and incenses and myrrh and frankincense and wine and oil and fine flour and wheat and livestock and sheep and horses and chariots and slaves and souls of men. ‘And the ripe fruit your soul desired has left you, and all the bright and shiny things are lost from you, and they will never be found again.’

The merchants of these things, who were enriched from her, will stand far away in fear of her torture, lamenting and mourning, saying, ‘Woe, woe to the great city dressed in fine linen and purple and scarlet and gilded in gold and precious stone and pearl, because such wealth was desolated.’

And every captain and everyone sailing places, and sailors, and anyone who works with the sea, will stand far away and yell at seeing the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What was like the great city?’

And they threw dust on their heads and yelled, lamenting and mourning, saying, ‘Woe, woe to the great city—all who have ships in the sea were enriched by her wealth—because she was desolated in one hour. Rejoice over her, sky and holy ones and envoys and prophets, because God judged your judgment against her.’

And one messenger lifted a heavy stone, like a large millstone, and threw it in the sea, saying, ‘The great city Babylon will be overthrown with an upheaval like this, and will not be found anymore. And the sound of harpists and musicians and flautists and trumpeters will never be heard in you anymore, and all crafters of every craft will never be found in you anymore, and the sound of a millstone will never be heard in you anymore, and a lamp’s light will never shine in you anymore, and the voice of a groom and bride will never be heard in you anymore, because your merchants were the earth’s moguls, because all the nations were deceived by your sorcery. And the blood of prophets and holy ones and all those slaughtered on the earth was in her.’
