Title

A Revelation of Jesus the Anointed One: which God gave him to show his slaves what must happen soon. And he signified it, sending it through his messenger to his slave John, who witnessed God’s word and the witness of Jesus the Anointed One, as much as he saw.

Favored is the one who reads, and the ones who hear the words of the prophecy, and the ones who keep what is written in it, because the time is near.

Salutation

John, to the seven assemblies in Asia. Grace and peace to you, from the one who is and who was and who is coming, and from the seven pneumas that are in front of his throne, and from Jesus the Anointed One, the trustworthy witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the earth’s kings.

To the one who loves us and releases us from our sins with his blood, and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him is the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. See, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of him. Yes, amen.

‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is coming, the Almighty.

[  ]

‘and send it to the seven assemblies: to Ephesos and to Smyrna and to Pergamon and to Thyateira and to Sardeis and to Philadelpheia and to Laodikeia.’

Son of Man

And I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me, and turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the middle of the lampstands was one like a son of man. He was clothed to his feet, and girded at the chest with a golden belt. And his head and his hairs were white like wool, white like snow. And his eyes were like a flame of fire. And his feet were like fine bronze, as if refined in a furnace. And his voice was like the rushing of many waters. And he held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp, two-edged sword went out of his mouth. And his face was like the sun shining in its strength.

And when I saw him I fell at his feet as though dead. And he put his right hand on me, saying, ‘Do not fear. I am the first and the last, and the living one, and I was dead, but see I am alive for ever and ever, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. So write what you have seen, and what is, and what is about to happen after these things. The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: the seven stars are messengers of the seven assemblies, and the lampstands are the seven assemblies.

Ephesos

‘Write to the messenger of the assembly in Ephesos:

‘The one who grasps the seven stars in his right hand, who walks in the middle of the seven golden lampstands, says this:

‘I know your works, and your labor and endurance, and that you cannot tolerate evils. And you have tested those who claim to be envoys but are not, and you found them false. And you have endurance and have borne because of my name and did not wear out. But I hold against you that you abandoned your first love. So remember where you have fallen from and repent, and do the first works. But if not, I am coming to you, and I will remove your lampstand from its place if you do not repent. But you have this, that you hate the works of the Nikolaitans, which I also hate.

‘Whoever has an ear, let him hear what the pneuma says to the assemblies. To whoever conquers, I will allow him to eat from the tree of life that is in God’s garden.

Smyrna

‘And write to the messenger of the assembly in Smyrna:

‘The first and the last, who was dead and came to life, says this:

‘I know your tribulation and poverty—but you are rich—and the defamation of those who claim to be Judeans themselves and are not, but are a synagogue of the satan. Do not fear what you are about to suffer. See, the slanderer is about to throw some of you into prison so you can be tested, and you will have ten days of tribulation. Be trustworthy until death and I will give you the laurel of life.

‘Whoever has an ear, let him hear what the pneuma says to the assemblies. Whoever conquers will not be injured by the second death.

Pergamon

‘And write to the messenger of the assembly in Pergamon:

‘The one who has the sharp, two-edged sword says this:

‘I know where you dwell, where the satan’s throne is. And you grasp my name and have not denied my trust, even in the days of Antipas, my trustworthy witness who was killed among you, where the satan dwells. But I hold a little against you, because you have some there who grasp Balaam’s teaching, who taught Balak to throw a trap in front of Israel’s sons, to eat idol-sacrificed food and to solicit whoredom. So you also have those who likewise grasp the teaching of the Nikolaitans. So repent. But if not, I am coming to you soon, and I will wage war against them with the sword of my mouth.

‘Whoever has an ear, let him hear what the pneuma says to the assemblies. To whoever conquers, I will give him the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone and on the stone is written a new name which no one knows except the one who receives it.

Thyateira

‘And write to the messenger of the assembly in Thyateira:

‘The son of God, whose eyes are like a flame of fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze, says this:

‘I know your works and love and trust and service and your endurance, and your last works are better than the first. But I hold this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet, and teaches and misleads my slaves to solicit whoredom and eat idol-sacrificed food. And I have given her time so she might repent, but she is not willing to repent of her whoredom. See, I will throw her into a bed, and those who solicit whoredom from her into great tribulation if they do not repent of her works. And I will kill her children with death, and all the assemblies will know that I am the one who searches innards and hearts, and I will give each of you according to your works. However, I say to the rest of you in Thyateira, whoever does not hold this teaching, who have not known the satan’s depths (as they say), I will not throw on you another burden. Anyway: Hold on, grasp until when I come.

‘And whoever conquers and keeps my works until the end, I will give him authority over the nations and he will shepherd them with an iron rod—like the potter’s jars are shattered—like I also received from my Father. And I will give him the morning star. Whoever has an ear, let him hear what the pneuma says to the assemblies.

Sardeis

‘And write to the messenger of the assembly in Sardeis:

‘The one who has God’s seven pneumas and the seven stars says this:

‘I know your works, that you have the reputation that you are alive, but you are dead. Awaken and strengthen what remains, which is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in my God’s sight. So remember what you received and heard, and keep it and repent. But if you will not awaken, I will come like a thief and you will not know what hour I will come to you. But you have some names in Sardeis who have not stained their clothes and who walk with me in white, because they are worthy.

‘Whoever conquers will be dressed that way in white clothes, and I will not wipe out his name from the scroll of life, and I will confess his name in front of my Father and in front of his messengers. Whoever has an ear, let him hear what the pneuma says to the assemblies.

Philadelpheia

‘And write to the messenger of the assembly in Philadelpheia:

‘The holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, the one who opens and no one will shut and who shuts and no one will open, says this:

‘I know your works. See, I have put an open door in front of you which no one can shut, because you have little power but have kept my word and have not denied my name. See, I compel those from the synagogue of the satan—those who claim to be Judeans and are not, but lie—see, I will make them come and worship in front of your feet and they will know that I have loved you. Because you have kept the word of my endurance, I will also keep you from the hour of temptation which is about to come on the whole world, to tempt the ones who dwell on the earth. I am coming soon. Grasp what you have so that no one may take your laurel.

‘Whoever conquers, I will make him a pillar in my god’s temple and he will not go out anymore. And I will write on him my god’s name and the name of my god’s city, the new Jerusalem—which comes out of the sky from my god—and my new name. Whoever has an ear, let him hear what the pneuma says to the assemblies.

Laodikeia

‘And write to the messenger of the assembly in Laodikeia:

‘The Amen, the trustworthy and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation, says this:

‘I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you would be cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I am about to spit you from my mouth because you say, ‘I am rich, and I have grown rich, and I need nothing,’ but you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. I advise you to buy from me gold refined by fire (so you can be rich), and white clothes (so you can be dressed and not show the shame of your nakedness), and salve to anoint your eyes (so you can see). I rebuke and discipline as many as I love. So be zealous and repent. See, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will enter to him and dine with him, and he with me.

‘Whoever conquers, I will allow him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat with my Father on his throne. Whoever has an ear, let him hear what the pneuma says to the assemblies.’

The Great Tribulation

After these things I saw, and see, an enormous crowd—which no one can number—from every nation and tribes and peoples and languages, standing in front of the throne and in front of the lamb, dressed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands. And they were yelling in a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation to our god, the one sitting on the throne, and to the lamb.’

And all the messengers stood around the throne, and the elders and the four animals fell in front of the throne on their faces and worshiped God, saying, ‘Amen. Favor and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength to our god for ever and ever. Amen.’

And one of the elders addressed me, saying to me, ‘These who are dressed in white robes—who are they and where did they come from?’

And I said, ‘My lord, you know.’

And he said to me, ‘These are the ones who come from the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the lamb’s blood. So they are in front of God’s throne and serve him day and night in his temple, and the one sitting on the throne will dwell over them. They will not hunger anymore, nor will they thirst anymore, nor will the sun strike them, nor any scorching heat, because the lamb in the middle of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to the streams of life’s water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’

Time Is Short

And I heard a loud voice in the sky, saying, ‘Now God’s salvation and power and kingdom has come to us, and the authority of his Anointed One, because the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, the one who accuses them in front of our god day and night. And they have conquered him through the lamb’s blood, and through their witness. And they did not love their life until death. Rejoice because of this, skies and the ones who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the slanderer has come down to you with great wrath, because he knows his time is short.’

Exhortations

If anyone has an ear, let him hear: If anyone goes into captivity, he goes into captivity. If anyone is killed with the sword, he must be killed with the sword. This is the endurance and the trust of the holy ones.

[  ]

Here is the endurance of the holy ones, those who keep God’s commands and the trust of Jesus.

And I heard a voice from the sky, saying, ‘Write: Favored are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’

The pneuma said, ‘Yes, so they will rest from their troubles, because their works follow with them.’

Messenger of the Waters

And I heard the messenger of the waters say, ‘You are just, the one who is and who was, the sacred one, because you have judged these things, because the blood of the holy ones and prophets were poured out. You gave them blood to drink. They deserve it.’

And I heard the altar saying, ‘Yes, Lord God the Almighty, your judgments are true and just.’

Like a Thief

(‘See, I am coming like a thief. Favored is the one who watches and keeps his clothes so he will not walk naked and they see his shame.’)

Celebration

After these things I heard something like the loud sound of a large multitude in the sky, saying, ‘Hallelu Yah. The salvation and glory and power to our god, because his judgments are true and just, because he judged the great whore who ruined the earth with her whoredom and he avenged the blood of his slaves from her hand.’

And they said a second time, ‘Hallelu Yah. And her smoke rises for ever and ever.’

And the twenty four elders fell down and the four animals worshiped God, the one sitting on the throne, saying, ‘Amen. Hallelu Yah.’

And a voice came from the throne, saying, ‘Praise our god, all his slaves and those who fear him, small and great.’

And I heard something like the sound of a large multitude, like the rushing of many waters, like the boom of strong thunders, saying, ‘Hallelu Yah, because our Lord God the Almighty reigns. We will rejoice and celebrate and give him glory, because the lamb’s marriage has come, and his bride made herself ready, and she was given bright, pure fine linen to dress in’ (since the justices of the holy ones are the fine linen).

And he said to me, ‘Write: Favored are those invited to the lamb’s marriage supper.’

And he said to me, ‘These are God’s true words.’

And I fell in front of his feet to worship him, and he said to me, ‘Stop that. I am a fellow slave with you and your brothers who hold the witness of Jesus. Worship God, because the witness of Jesus is the pneuma of prophecy.’

The New Creation

And I saw a new sky and a new earth, because the first sky and the first earth passed away. And there was no sea anymore. And I saw the holy city Jerusalem descending from the sky, from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, ‘See, the dwelling of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they will be his peoples, and God himself will be their god. And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death, nor grief, nor screaming, nor pain. They will not exist anymore because the first things passed away.’

And the one sitting on the throne said, ‘See, I make all things new.’

And he said, ‘Write, because these words are trustworthy and true.’

And he said to me, ‘It has happened. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will freely give from the stream of life’s water. Whoever conquers will inherit these things and I will be his god and he will be my son. But the cowardly and untrusting and abominable and murderers and whores and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their share is in the lake burning with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.’

Conclusion

And he said to me, ‘These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord God of the pneumas of the prophets sent his messenger to show his slaves what must happen soon. And see, I am coming soon. Favored is the one who keeps the words of this scroll’s prophecy.’

And I, John, the one who saw these things—and when I heard and looked, I fell down to worship before the feet of the messenger who showed me these things. And he said to me, ‘Stop that. I am a fellow slave of you and your brothers, the prophets and the ones who keep this scroll’s words. Worship God.’

And he said to me, ‘Do not seal the words of this scroll’s prophecy, because the time is near. Let the one who is unjust stay unjust, and let the one who is filthy stay filthy, and let the one who is just still do justice, and let the one who is holy stay holy. See, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to give each according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Favored are the ones who wash their robes, so they will have access to the tree of life. And they will enter the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the whores and the murderers and the idolaters and everyone who loves and does lies. I, Jesus, have sent my messenger to witness these things in the assemblies to you. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.’

And the pneuma and the bride say, ‘Come!’

And let the one who hears say, ‘Come!’

And let the one who thirsts come, and let the one who desires freely receive life’s water. I witness to all who hear the words of this scroll’s prophecy: If anyone adds to these things, God will give him the plagues written in this scroll. And if anyone removes from the words of this scroll’s prophecy, God will remove his share from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this scroll.

The one who witnesses these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon. Amen.’

Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.
